Carl takes the oath of office, administered by the Honorable Robert Kilander, Chief Judge of the 18th Judicial Court, in an inaugural ceremony held on December 2, 2002

Carl Schultz asked us to elect him because:

  • He is a family man committed to the community.
  • He would be available to his constituents.
  • He is a businessman.
  • He would work for closer ties to local governments.
  • He is a Horticulturist.

How has he done? In his own words:

  • I formed an advisory committee comprised of local government officials and community residents. The Forest Preserve District is hosting sit-downs with municipalities and park districts.
  • I attend many homeowners’ meetings.
  • I insist on best science practices for our natural resources.
  • I have voted for 6 major habitat improvements, 2 of which are in Springbrook Prairie and 2 in Greene Valley Forest Preserves. Habitat improvements have seen the return of the Lark Sparrow, a bird that reportedly has not been seen in DuPage for forty years.
  • I have worked on maintaining a balanced budget and developing a budget plan that has balanced our General Fund for the next 5 years.
  • I sit on the Friends of St. James Farm Committee and had significant input to the approved Master Plan that will restore hundreds of acres to wildlife habitat, improve recreational opportunities, including equestrian facilities, and will offer cultural opportunities, too. The restoration plan will provide numerous research opportunities that will develop a guide for other restoration in our preserves and across the nation.
